The System Management Interface Forum (SMIF) is now incorporated as a non-profit corporation, promoting both the SBS (Smart Battery System) specifications and enhancements to battery and power management in portable systems, and the recently added PMBus (Power Management Bus) initiative. The specification and driver ownership for Smart Battery System still resides with the SBS-IF, while ownership of the specification and future related efforts for the new PMBus initiative resides with the new PMBus Implementers Forum. Any paid-up SMIF member can become an adopter of either or both standards by signing that standards’s adopters agreement.
